Theatre de 10 heures
(CHANSONNIERS)
36 Bd de Clichy, 75018 Paris, France

In the heart of Pigalle this theatre opened in 1890 as the Cabaret des Arts. In 1925, it was taken over by Roger Ferréol who renamed it Théâtre de Dix Heures. Over the years it has hosted comedy, traditional theatre and in the 1960s chansonniers, who were so popular in Montmartre. A typical lineup in the 1960s would include Maurice Horgues, Philippe Olive, Oleo, Jacques Cathy, Jean Breton, Claude Rolland and Georges Vittel.

HISTORICAL OF 10 HOUR THEATER

The Théâtre de Dix-Heures was founded, so to speak, on a joke. In “Les Linottes” by Courteline, Frédéric Hamiet declares: “I tell you that the man who will do this, who will found a practical, comfortable, elegant Dix-Hours theater where only cheerful plays will be performed – because the hours have their demands—will earn a fortune by the very force of things, by the mere fact that he will have quenched a thirst. This joke was taken seriously and the Théâtre de Dix-Heures, founded in 1925 on a joke, continues today to affirm its raison d’être: to joke. And thus to maintain, in us, in us, the taste for fine laughter.
