Objet 34a – Rue de Romainville

My base for 2024 is the rue de Romainville in the 19th arrondissement. Opposite my apartment was the former home of Drago Paris, the French company who have been manufacturing medals, trophies and military badges since 1920.

Joseph Séraphin Drago created his engraver-publisher workshop-business in 1912 at 39 rue Gioffredo in Nice with a subsidiary in Paris (registered in 1920). Charles (1908-1976), son of Joseph Drago, took over the family workshop in 1948. He settled in Paris, in rue Béranger in the 3rd arrondissement, close to the great French army corps, whose insignia he created. The Parisian subsidiary moved to 43 rue Olivier-Métra in the 20th, and then on to 3 rue de Romainville in the 19th arrondissement. We know this French Army Artillery Corps cap badge was cast between 1952-53. From 1954-1988 the badges were simply marked DRAGO Paris.
