Chansonnier, actor and radio star Geo Pomel was a vaudeville comic in the great variety tradition. A favourite on the radio, in particular on Ondes Joyeuses de Radio-Paris. On the stage he appeared across Paris, including at L’Olympia, Concert Mayol, Theatre de Dix Heures, and Petit Casino.

Sylvine Delannoy

Daughter of the composer Marcel Delannoy, Sylvine Delannoy (1929-1993) was a theatre and cinema actress. Described as having an exquisite naturalness, freshness, and vocal grace, she appeared on stage at the Comédie des Champs-Élysées. On the cinema screen she played Madame Morane in François Truffaut’s La mariée était en noir.

José Squinquel

Born in Belgium José Squinquel became a French citizen after being arrested crossing the border in 1939. He was a TV, film and theatre actor who had a long and impressive career on the Paris stage, including performing at the Sarah Bernhardt Theater (La Calèche, 1965), and the Théâtre du Palais-Royal (Le Mariage forcé, 1961). In the 1960s his film credits included the thriller Le gorille a mordu l’archevêque (1962).

Marie-Jeanne Gardien

The career of radio and TV actress Marie-Jeanne Gardien fired into life during the 1960s. At the start of decade she appeared in Les cinq dernières minutes, a series you must already be familiar with, if you’ve read a few of the biographies here on the website. Other TV series included the courtroom drama En votre âme et conscience (1967), and L’homme du Picardie (1969).

Jacques Muller

Between 1946-1978, actor Jacques Muller appeared in about thirty small roles in cinema and television. In the theatre he participated in the staging of L’Équarrissage pour tous, a play by Boris Vian (1950) and in the Parisian venues of the Theatre Pigalle, Théâtre des Noctambules, and Théâtre Antoine.

Yves Kerven

Operetta singer and cabaret artist Yves Kerven was known by the moniker Le Breton de Montmartre. He starred alongside one of the greatest cabaret stars, Souplex, in Vive la reine! at the Théâtre le Palace in Rue du Faubourg Montmartre.

Mony Benson

Winner of the Most Beautiful Legs of Paris (judged by Vincent Scotto in 1948) Mony Benson’s pins were not just for show but for show business in her life as a dancer. A popular model for artists and photographers, she posed for the great snapper Sam Lévin amongst others. A dancer at the Théâtre du Petit Monde, she described herself as “1,65 m. Moderne, acrobatie, can-can solo instrumentiste concertina”. Benson’s talents were spotted in the chorus line in Morocco by the great Alibert, who hired her on the spot for his own tour. She was also crowned Miss Pétanque in 1950.
