Marcel Cuvelier

Marcel Cuvelier began his career in 1950, acting and directing in venues across Paris, including the Théâtre de Poche Montparnasse and Théâtre de la Huchette. He made his debut in Ascenseur pour l’échafaud by Louis Malle in 1958. In the 1960s Cuvelier appeared on screen in La Vérité (1960 with Brigitte Bardo), Le Doulos (1962 with Jean-Paul Belmondo), and Les Bonnes Causes (1963 with Bourvil) amongst others. He is buried in Montmartre cemetery.

Rino Adipietro

Dancer, singer and choreographer Rino Adipietro is best known for his work with the Ballets de Paris and Zizi Jeanmaire in the 1950s and 60s. A combination that travelled the world from the Alhambra Theatre in Paris to the bright lights of the Broadway Theatre in New York. He worked as a choreographer on films in the 1960s and would later teach modern jazz dance in Saint-Cloud. At the age of 80 he appeared on the French series of the X Factor. He released a handful of EPs in the 1960s.

Lucien Huberty

Discovered by an Opera artist who whisked him off to Paris, Lucien Huberty’s talents were first noticed as he sang in church. His parents wanted him to be a surveyor, while young Lucien was passionate about football, running, jumping, swimming, athletics and boxing. At the age of 17 he could run the hundred metres in 11 seconds. Although prodigiously gifted in many fields, it was his rich baritone voice that meant he was destined to be a singing star. Solicited by the radio and the theatre, he had unforgettable seasons in Monte Carlo and Nice, and was a regular performer on the Paris stage. A magnificent baritone singer, Huberty was very able in opéra comique as well as in operetta.

Renee Mazella

Soprano Rénée Mazella was a member of the Opéra and the Opéra Comique in Paris. She toured worldwide, had a long career in South America, and was engaged at the Metropolitan Opera, New York. Celebrated as a master of early 20th century French music, her repertoire included Ibert, Honneger, Debussy, Ravel and Chabrier amongst others.

Aline Bertrand

A student of Marcel Herrand and Jean Marchât, theatre actress Aline Bertrand was a regular on the Paris stage throughout her career. She appeared in Vient de Naitre by Henry Bernstein, the Hollywood director. His debut play in Paris, that premiered at the Theatre des Ambassadeurs in 1948. Later she was a regular on TV and film, appearing in nearly 50 films. In the 1960s these included Le journal d’une femme de chambre alongside Jeanne Moreau.

Aldo Killy

Italian crooner Aldo Killy (real name Arnaldo Zucconi) was touted as Italy’s answer to Frank Sinatra by 1960s heartthrob Gardner McKay. In 1966 he competed in the Rose de France d’Antibes singing contest. Michel Polnareff was an award winner that year.

Billy Nencioli

Billy Nencioli (1932-1997) was a singer-songwriter who made his debut in the 1950s under the guidance of Charles Aznavour. In 1958 he won the Grand Prix de l’Académie Française du Disque (best male performance) for his song Porte des Lilas. Later he would become the children’s French TV entertainer Samsong.

Michel Sardou

With 25 studio albums, 350 songs, and more than 90 million records sold throughout his career, Michel Sardou is one of the most successful French artists. He started his career in the early 1960s, performing in small cabarets in Montmartre. He lived here upon his return from military service in 1967.
