
The square is named after the French writer, libertarian journalist and feminist Caroline Rémy (1855–1929), whose pen name was Séverine. It was created in 1933 on the initiative of Doctor Albert Besson , then vice-president of the Paris municipal council and municipal councilor of the district. It is made up of sloping lawns and a wide variety of trees: white willows, weeping elm, Judas tree, ginkgo, Cedrela, purple beech, Provence hackberry, Virginia tulip tree, American walnut, Caucasian cucumber, American honeylocust.
